indoor venue - can you help?

We are currently in the process of trying to secure an indoor venue in order to run a pilot project indoor skate park. So please contact us if you know about any suitable indoor spaces locally which would be available for 3-12months. This will be the next step in helping us achieve our long term goal of opening a really good indoor skate park in the area.

CASUAL COACHING AND ASSISTANT COACHING OPPORTUNITIES

Urban Youth Action is a local charity that aims to inspire children and young people of all abilities through urban extreme sports. We offer ramp sports, particularly skateboarding, scootering and BMX, to help young people in their social, physical and spiritual development. We are looking to build a pool of casual staff to help out when we have events and activities. You will need to be at ease with working with children and young people, patient and physically strong to lift our mobile ramps. Your attitude, enthusiasm and ability to work with children and young people are more important to us than a current high level personal ability in ramp sports. We are looking for the following –

ASSISTANT TUTORS - £7.50 an hour. To lift and set up ramps and to support the Lead Skate Tutor to run activities and help children and young people to enjoy a safe and fun time. Download Job Details here.

LEAD SKATE TUTORS - £12.50 an hour. To lead a small team delivering ramp sports sessions with children and young people. Download job details here.

DRIVERS - To drive UYA vehicles to events and activities and help set up mobile ramps so must be physically strong– must have Cat B+ on driving licence in order to tow our trailer. £9.00 an hour or may be combined with one of the roles above. To apply for the above roles please send a CV along with a supporting letter outlining how you meet the requirements of the person specification to jennie@urbanyouthaction.co.uk. Closing date 22nd December.

Due to the practical nature of this work we plan to invite shortlisted candidates to attend one of our events and work alongside the team rather than have a formal interview process. This will give you a chance to see the role in action and will enable us to see you demonstrate the skills required. We can train you in how to teach someone to skateboard if you have the right skills to engage young people.

An Enhanced DBS check will be required for these posts.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for teaching us. It has really boosted my confidence. I am so going to get a skateboard!

Everything that Urban Youth Action schedules throughout the year could not happen without the help of our volunteers.

We love committed volunteers and, in return, we commit to you too! This means that, whether you are 14-18 or over 18, after three events you attend you will receive a highly-coveted Staff/Crew t-shirt and hoodie. Don’t worry if you think that one touch of a skateboard would mean a trip to hospital... most of our 80+ volunteers can’t skate either! But they help signing out equipment and ensuring our events are safe and run smoothly.

This is an opportunity that is great to put on your CV or personal statement. We’re happy to write references as well!

So, if you're interested in getting involved, you can email our Volunteer Coordinator, Becca, to apply.
